What to include in the request
Do not buy material before checking measurements, waste allowance, acclimation requirements and the condition of the existing floor with the installer. Photograph transitions and any areas that feel soft or uneven. Keep product names and receipts if you already purchased flooring, then ask who is responsible for checking the product before installation.
Walk the rooms before the visit
- List each room and approximate measurements, including closets or connected spaces you may want included.
- Mark stairs, transitions, uneven areas and places where the existing floor feels soft.
- Note what should happen to furniture, appliances, baseboards and the existing floor covering.
- Keep packaging, product labels and receipts for any flooring you have already purchased.
Get the scope in writing
Ask what the quote includes for measurement, material, removal, disposal, subfloor preparation, stairs and transitions. Ask which hidden conditions could change the scope after the existing floor is removed. See the Referral Flooring profile for the owner-quoted supply and installation service.
